5-Minute Quickstart
Go from a fresh account registration to an active, working billing service in five straightforward steps.
Go from registration to working service
This quickstart guide is designed for ISP owners, network engineers, and administrators setting up Nukta for the first time. It walks you through the shortest, safest path to production: create your workspace, configure your ISP branding, build your first internet package, connect a MikroTik router, and authenticate a live test customer.
Do not start collecting live customer payments until you have completed a controlled test transaction. A saved payment credential verifies that your keys were entered, but executing a small test transaction confirms that your gateway callbacks and settlement accounts are fully operational.
What you need before starting
Before you begin, have the following items ready:
- A working email address and mobile phone number for verification.
- Your company/ISP name, preferred brand accent color, and customer support telephone number.
- A MikroTik router running RouterOS v7 connected to the internet via any WAN uplink (DHCP, Static IP, or PPPoE client).
- Details for at least one internet package (price, duration, upload/download speed limits).
- (Optional) Payment gateway credentials (such as Paystack, Kopo Kopo, or mobile money) if you plan to accept automated online payments immediately.
Step 1: Create your ISP account and workspace
- Open the Nukta Sign Up Page.
- Enter your full name, email address, and a secure password (at least 8 characters, with uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols).
- Check your email inbox and click the verification link.
- Verify your phone number via a quick 6-digit SMS one-time password (OTP).
- Enter your ISP name (e.g.,
MtaaniNet) and choose your unique subdomain prefix (e.g.,mtaaninet). This claims your dedicated workspace URL:https://mtaaninet.nukta.one - Confirm your region (e.g., Country, Currency, and Timezone).
- Complete setup to launch your new Nukta dashboard.
Step 2: Configure your ISP identity and branding
- In your dashboard, open Settings → Branding from the left navigation.
- Review and configure your ISP identity:
- ISP Network Name: The business name displayed on captive portals, customer receipts, and SMS messages.
- Brand Accent Color: Select a theme color that matches your company branding.
- Support Phone & Email: Public contact details shown to customers when they need assistance.
- Portal Logo: Upload your company logo (PNG, SVG, or WebP) to display on captive hotspot screens.
- Terms & Conditions: Enable terms of service for customer Wi-Fi access if required by local regulations.
- Click Save Changes.
Step 3: Create your first internet package
- In your dashboard, open Finance → Packages.
- Click Create Package.
- Choose the service type:
- Hotspot: For walk-in customers connecting over public Wi-Fi access points.
- PPPoE: For fixed home fiber or wireless CPE accounts requiring a dedicated username and password.
- Enter your package specifications:
- Package Name: A clear label customers will recognize (e.g.,
3-Hour Unlimited Hotspotor10 Mbps Monthly Home Fiber). - Price: The cost in your selected currency.
- Speed Limit: Bandwidth limits formatted as upload/download (e.g.,
5M/5Mfor 5 Mbps symmetrical). - Duration: How long the plan remains active (e.g., 3 Hours, 24 Hours, or 30 Days).
- Device Limit: Maximum concurrent devices allowed (commonly
1for hotspots or1-3for home fiber).
- Package Name: A clear label customers will recognize (e.g.,
- Click Create Package to make it live.
Step 4: Provision your MikroTik router
Nukta connects to your MikroTik router over an encrypted WireGuard management tunnel and handles customer traffic via high-performance cloud RADIUS. No public IP address or port forwarding is required on your router.
- In your dashboard, open Devices → Mikrotiks.
- Click Add Router.
- Give your router a recognizable identity (e.g.,
Site 1 GatewayorHostel Main hEX). - Nukta will generate an instant, one-line RouterOS v7 provisioning command. Click Copy Command.
- Connect to your MikroTik router using WinBox or WebFig.
- Open Terminal on your router, paste the command, and press Enter.
- The script automatically creates the WireGuard tunnel interface, registers Nukta's cloud RADIUS servers, configures Hotspot walled garden rules, and sets up authentication profiles.
- Within 15 seconds, your router will establish a handshake with Nukta. In your dashboard, the router card will show a bright green Online status badge.
If your router does not come online within 30 seconds, ensure the router can resolve external domains (test by running /ping 8.8.8.8 in the MikroTik terminal) and that the system clock is synchronized via SNTP.
Step 5: Connect a test customer and verify live billing
Now verify that authentication and accounting work end-to-end:
For Hotspot Wi-Fi:
- Connect a phone or laptop to your MikroTik router's hotspot Wi-Fi interface.
- The branded Nukta captive portal will automatically pop up.
- Select your test package and complete a test payment via your enabled gateway, or enter a test voucher code created from Finance → Vouchers.
- Once completed, the device connects to the internet instantly.
For Home Fiber / PPPoE:
- In your dashboard, open Users → Customers.
- Click Add Customer, enter the customer's name, phone number, and assign the package you created in Step 3.
- A unique customer username (e.g.,
S102) and account PIN are generated automatically. - Configure a client router or laptop with this PPPoE username and password.
- The connection will dial up and authenticate immediately.
Confirm live session visibility:
Open Users → Active Users. You will see your test device listed with its MAC address, IP address, connection uptime, and real-time upload and download speeds streaming live.
Step 6: Configure automated billing and notifications
To automate renewals and keep customers informed:
- Payment Gateways: Open Settings → Payments. Connect your preferred payment provider—such as Paystack for card and bank payments, Kopo Kopo, or direct mobile money—to automate customer renewals. Nukta generates and handles callback URLs automatically.
- SMS Gateway: Open Settings → SMS Gateways. Choose your provider (such as Africa's Talking, Advanta, or Twilio), paste your API key, and specify your approved Sender ID.
- Automated Templates: Open Settings → SMS Templates. Review and customize pre-built templates for payment receipts, customer credentials, and renewal reminder notices sent prior to expiration.
