Live Connected Sessions
Monitor real-time customer connections, streaming bandwidth speeds, active IP/MAC addresses, and execute session disconnects or device blocks.
Real-time network session visibility
The Users → Active Users workspace provides a live, streaming window into every customer device currently authenticated across your entire fleet of MikroTik routers. Rather than logging into individual WinBox instances to check active Hotspot bindings or PPPoE interfaces, Nukta aggregates all active sessions into a single, high-performance monitoring table.
The page refreshes automatically, displaying live connection counters and real-time bandwidth consumption across both public hotspots and fixed residential fiber lines.
What you see on the live sessions table
Each active session row provides critical operational identifiers:
- Customer Identity: Account display name, username (e.g.,
S102), and quick link to their full profile. - Service Type Badge: Indicates whether the connection is a walk-in Hotspot user or a fixed PPPoE client.
- Leased IP Address: The framed IPv4 address currently assigned to the customer device or home router.
- Hardware MAC Address: The physical media access control address of the connected network interface.
- Connected Router: The specific MikroTik router currently routing the customer's traffic.
- Connection Uptime: How long the customer has been continuously connected during this session (e.g.,
2h 14m). - Live Speedometers: Real-time streaming upload and download rates (e.g.,
4.2 Mbps ↓ / 1.1 Mbps ↑), allowing your NOC team to instantly identify heavy downloaders or bandwidth-hogging clients. - Total Data Transferred: Cumulative megabytes or gigabytes uploaded and downloaded during the current session.
Deep inspection with the Session Drawer
Clicking on any session row opens the slide-out Session Drawer on the right side of the screen. The drawer reveals granular diagnostic data:
- Session Start Timestamp: Exact date and time the session authenticated.
- NAS: The physical router where the session arrived.
- Bandwidth Queue Profile: The exact MikroTik rate-limit queue applied to the session (e.g.,
20M/20M). - Session ID: The unique accounting identifier used to trace router events.
- Quick Customer Actions: Direct shortcut buttons to open customer profile, send an instant SMS, or disconnect the device.
Managing active sessions
From the action menu on any session row or inside the Session Drawer, your team can execute immediate network actions:
1. Graceful Disconnect (Kick)
- What it does: Instructs the serving MikroTik router to cleanly terminate the customer's active connection.
- When to use: Use this when a customer reports slow browsing speeds, when bandwidth queues need to be cleared after upgrading a package, or to remove a hung connection.
- Result: The router tears down the session. If the customer's account remains active and within its validity window, their device automatically reconnects in seconds with fresh queues.
2. Disconnect Until Purchase
- What it does: Terminates the session and marks the connection as requiring a new package purchase before network access can be re-established.
- When to use: Used primarily in hotspot environments when an operator needs to force a walk-in user to purchase a fresh plan rather than recycling grace-period bandwidth.
3. Pause Customer
- What it does: Halts the customer's account state and terminates their current network connection.
- When to use: When a customer requests a temporary freeze of their subscription while traveling, or when an account is under administrative review.
- Result: The customer cannot re-authenticate until an administrator clicks Resume on their profile.
4. Block Device
- What it does: Immediately terminates the active session, rejects the customer's username at future sign-in attempts, and places the device's hardware MAC address onto the network blocklist.
- When to use: To block abusive devices, unauthorized network taps, or fraudulent users.
- Result: When selected, you can enter an optional reason (up to 200 characters). The device is immediately prohibited from joining your network.
5. Send Direct SMS
- What it does: Opens an instant SMS composer pre-filled with the customer's telephone number.
- When to use: Quickly notify an online customer of scheduled maintenance on their specific router or alert them to unusual bandwidth saturation.
Where to find and unblock blocked devices
In Nukta, blocked devices and suspended customer accounts are tied together to maintain security integrity:
- Dashboard Churned Card: The Churned / Disabled metric on your main overview page tracks all blocked and disabled accounts. Click it to view the list.
- Customers Directory Filter: In Users → Customers, select the Blocked / Churned filter to review all currently restricted accounts and devices.
- Unblocking Access: Open the customer's profile and click Unblock Customer from the top action menu. This lifts the username restriction, clears the MAC address from the blocklist, and restores eligibility to connect.
Troubleshooting stale and hung sessions
Occasionally, a customer device may drop off Wi-Fi abruptly (such as driving out of range or draining its battery) before sending a standard disconnect signal to the router:
- Accounting Lag: The MikroTik router sends periodic accounting heartbeats to Nukta. A dropped session will clear automatically upon the next accounting check.
- Manual Clearing: If a customer reports they cannot reconnect because the system believes their previous session is still online, locate the record in Active Users and click Disconnect.
- Reconnection Verification: After clicking disconnect, wait 5 seconds. If the device was genuinely disconnected, the row disappears. If the row reappears immediately with a fresh start time, the customer's device is actively online and continuously reconnecting.
