Communications Overview
Select the appropriate customer messaging workflow across immediate SMS, scheduled broadcast campaigns, and captive promo banners.
Use the right communication workflow
In your Nukta dashboard, communication tools reside under the Communication section in the main navigation sidebar.
Nukta provides distinct isp tools designed for customer outreach. While these tools share customer audience filters and gateway configurations, they produce different records, tracking metrics, and delivery outcomes:
- Permissions: Sending direct SMS messages requires the
smspermission. Managing broadcast campaigns and captive promo banners requires thecampaignspermission.
| Tool | Best for | Key behavior |
|---|---|---|
| SMS | Immediate SMS to individual or segmented customers | Dispatches instant texts; estimates recipients, character segments, and costs; supports message templates, failed resends, and prepaid balance tracking. |
| Broadcast Campaigns | Scheduled or recurring customer SMS outreach | Dispatches on a defined schedule; supports audience segment filters and recurrence rules; checked and processed by Nukta every 5 minutes. |
| Captive Promo Banners | Visual announcements and advertising on the captive portal | Renders text banners, promotional images, or video creatives directly on customer login screens; tracks impressions, clicks, and click-through rates. |
Automated transaction receipts, subscription expiry notices, voucher delivery texts, bundle usage warnings, MikroTik router outage alerts, and automated sales reports are configured under Settings → Communications and Settings → Notifications, rather than created as manual campaigns.
Before sending messages
To maintain reliable delivery and protect your brand reputation, follow these operational checks before dispatching any message:
- Verify Active Provider: Confirm your active messaging gateway is configured and healthy under Settings → Communications → SMS → Gateways.
- Send a Controlled Test: Always dispatch a test message to a team-owned phone number or test email first.
- Select the Smallest Viable Audience: Avoid blasting all registered customers when targeting only specific sites, expired accounts, or router segments.
- Review Personalization Variables: Preview template variables (such as
{{first_name}}or{{expiry_date}}) with a representative customer record to prevent empty tags. - Inspect Character Segments and Cost: Review character count and SMS segment estimates. Extended messages exceeding 160 GSM characters consume multiple SMS credits.
- Verify Sender ID Approval: Confirm that your alphanumeric Sender ID is active and approved by telecom carriers in your operational region.
- Schedule in Workspace Timezone: Ensure all scheduled broadcast dispatches are configured in your local timezone.
Interpreting delivery statuses
- Sent: Indicates that Nukta dispatched the message payload and your SMS gateway accepted the API request.
- Delivered / Failed: Final delivery status depends on asynchronous telecom carrier callbacks and the recipient handset state.
- Investigate Before Resending: Do not repeatedly resend messages showing pending statuses. Check recipient phone number formatting (e.g. international E.164 dial codes) and provider credit balance first before triggering duplicate dispatches.
Protecting customer data privacy
Customer contact lists, export logs, and messaging histories contain sensitive personal data—including mobile phone numbers, customer names, email addresses, and subscription details:
- Restrict communication permissions to authorized team members only.
- Avoid including sensitive personal identifiers inside general marketing broadcasts.
- Security Rule: Never transmit unhashed customer passwords, PINs, OTP codes, account recovery links, API secrets, or complete credit card credentials over unencrypted SMS.
